"Clayton: Yesterday and Today" A new outdoor exhibit

Published 28 Noviembre 2024

The Biomuseo, City of Knowledge and the United States Embassy in Panama inaugurated a new exhibit called ' Clayton: Yesterday and Today ' which consists of a series of 36 high-quality interpretive panels that have been installed outdoors on the City of Knowledge campus to reveal the amazing history of this unique place in Panama and the world.

The panels make visible and show the public the extraordinary transformation that the area we know today as the City of Knowledge has experienced, which went from being a US military base, perhaps the most symbolic in Panamanian territory, to becoming a dynamic complex that is entirely dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and the promotion of culture and that is open to all Panamanians and the entire world.

The exhibition also includes quotes from people who worked, lived or visited Clayton over the past 60 years, as well as a digital version on the Biomuseo website that is linked to the Ciudad del Saber online audio guide service. This digital version also has spaces for all users to record their own memories of Clayton. In this way, the content of the exhibition will continue to grow and become more and more abundant.

At the opening ceremony, which took place at the Panama American Center in the City of Knowledge, the “panel number 1” of the exhibition was unveiled, followed by a tour in which all those present were able to inspect the panels installed throughout the area.

The ceremony was attended by the United States Ambassador to Panama, Mari Carmen Aponte, Professor Jorge Arosemena, Executive President of the City of Knowledge Foundation, Ana Lucrecia Tovar de Zarak, President of the Biomuseo, among other visitors.

The exhibit was funded by the U.S. Embassy in Panama's Public Diplomacy Grants Program and was created with documentary and photographic contributions from the Canal Museum, the University of Florida in Gainesville, the Panama Canal Society , the Panama Audubon Society , the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, the Panama Botanical Park, the Panama Canal Authority, and private collections from enthusiasts and experts.

The panels are now available to the public and are an excellent opportunity to visit and enjoy the open-air spaces of the City of Knowledge, while discovering the amazing history of this unique place. ' Clayton: Yesterday and Today ' is part of the celebrations to be held throughout 2024, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Biomuseo and the 25th anniversary since the City of Knowledge project began operating at the former Clayton base.

Both institutions will continue to hold special events and programs to celebrate their respective anniversaries with the public.
