A campus open to all people

Encounter and community involvement

More than two decades ago, the U.S. military base in Clayton became Ciudad del Saber, a country project that, while preserving the architectural and historical legacy of the former canal zone, would replace guns with books and soldiers with students. In addition to the conceptual challenge that this meant, there was the parallel challenge of physically converting a place conceived to be closed and exclusive into a space of free access for the public and of a collaborative nature, at the service of knowledge.
