The Opportunity

Location: Preferably in Panama. Good candidates in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Colombia, or Peru might be considered.


As a key member of the civil society-strengthening program, the OCD (Organizational Capacity Development) Advisor will provide strategic and technical guidance to partners, and will lead and drive the organizational capacity development component of the PASC program, in close collaboration with the partners. This will include facilitating partner capacity self-assessments and supporting development of their OCD activity plans. The incumbent will also provide coaching, support in the implementation of the OCD plans, and carry out continuous monitoring to ensure timely implementation of the plans and contribute to the strengthening of the civil society organizations. The work also includes strategic and technical contribution to Save the Children’s organizational thinking around capacity strengthening and documenting of best practices and lessons learned.


Key areas of responsibility

·         Prepare, facilitate and implement OCD self-assessment of all selected partners.

·         Engage in the process of OCD with all the levels of the partner´s organizations including strategic, implementing and operative staff.

·         Provide guidance to partners in developing OCD activity plans and monitor their timely implementation.

·         Provide continuous coaching to partners in the implementation of their OCD plans.

·         Facilitate and promote the development of civil society organizations with good governance and financial sustainability, preparing them for the modality of Core Support.

·         Mapping of partner organizational strengths with the aim of fostering peer-to-peer support among the partners in OCD.

·         Contribute to learning and organizational knowledge in the areas of organizational capacity strengthening, including documenting best practices and lessons learned.


Key requirements for the post

·         Higher degree in a relevant field with 10 years of experience in Organizational Capacity Development, civil society support and international cooperation.

·         Excellent Spanish and English knowledge.  

·         Excellent writing skills with ample proven experience writing reports, proposals and other documentation relevant to the work of SCI.

  • Willingness to travel in LAC countries.

·         Capacity to support others to improve their skills in drafting proposals, reports, and other documents.

·         Well-developed conceptual skills – able to distill conceptual models, tendencies, trends and patterns from concrete program/project activities

  • Evidence of analytical ability, for example through experience in research or evaluation.
  • Culturally sensitive, with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including listening, influencing and negotiation. 
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.

·         Excellent training and facilitation skills. 

·         Very organized and able to keep track of and make progress on multiple priorities/ fronts.

·         Excellent at meeting deadline.

·         Skilled at working and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team.

·         Self-motivated, high-energy, excellent people-skills.
