LAC Regional Humanitarian Director

The Opportunity

If you are a passionate and experienced leader in the Humanitarian Field, and are interested in joining the independent organization, world-wide leader in the Child Rights sector, this opportunity is for you!

Save the Children International is recruiting a senior professional to join the organization to serve as Regional Humanitarian Director for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Region.

The position could be based in Panamá, Bolivia, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, or Peru.

In the role you will provide vision and strategic direction for the humanitarian program portfolio in collaboration and close coordination with other Regional Senior Leadership Team members. You will drive Save the Children´s localization effort in the region and ensure humanitarian responses are high quality, gender-sensitive and responsive to needs across communities.

You will play a leading role in the effective scale up and management of Save the Children emergency and recovery programmes to increase impact and enable positive change for children, their families, and communities.  You will advocate for the needs of children and adolescents in rapid-onset emergencies, complex long-term emergencies and in the Nexus to development.

We are looking for humanitarian professionals who have worked in a diverse set of humanitarian roles, have broad experience leading and managing humanitarian responses, as well as leading and participating in humanitarian coordination and advocacy fora.  The candidate should have a deep understanding of humanitarian issues globally and of humanitarian needs in the region. He or she should be comfortable working at local, regional and international levels.  A strong understanding of the needs of children in emergencies and of gender issues in humanitarian work is necessary.

 In order to be successful you should bring/have:

Bachelor´s degree (required).
Master´s level degree (extremely desirable)
High level of written and spoken Spanish and English (French is desirable)
At least 10 years’ experience of working within a complex country programme in an emergency response or fragile state setting; and/or extensive experience of setting up responses in out of area contexts (either where no SC presence or CO presence).
Previous experience of managing programme teams in large-scale/complex, first phase emergency response is essential.
Senior management experience of leading a diverse, multi-function and/or multi-sector team.
Experience of international level representation with key stakeholders, and co-ordination with other NGOs/UN
The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult circumstances.
Commitment to the aims and principles of SC. In a particular, a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
