17833 RSC 2020: INDIVIDUAL CONTRACT for a Good Growth Partnership Gender Consultant

Fecha límite: 27 de Noviembre de 2020

Project Background / Description of the Assignment:
UNDP Green Commodities Programme (GCP) is seeking to engage a Good Growth Partnership Gender Consultant.
UNDP established the Green Commodities Programme (GCP) in 2009 in recognition of the importance of global agricultural commodities and how they contribute to economic, social, and environmental sustainability and the need to strengthen UNDP’s support and leadership in the field. UNDP GCP works to improve the economic, social and environmental performance of agricultural and marine commodity sectors in countries of UNDP operation where the programme can have significant impact on rural livelihoods, mitigate climate change, and maintain the ecosystem services and resilience of landscapes and seascapes.
In 2017 implementation began on the GEF-funded Good Growth Partnership (GGP), led by UNDP GCP and carried out in collaboration with Conservation International, the International Finance Corporation, UN Environment, the World Wildlife Fund and the governments of Indonesia, Paraguay, Brazil and Liberia. The GGP is a commodities-focused integrated approach pilot programme, “Taking Deforestation out of Commodity Supply Chains,” consisting of 5 GEF-funded child projects working across production, financing, and demand, with coordination and integration of the partnership led by the UNDP GCP through the Adaptive Management and Learning (A&L) project.
This programme is advancing an integrated value chain approach to tackling the underlying root causes of deforestation from beef, palm oil, and soy, which together account for nearly 70% of deforestation globally.
The Adaptive Management & Learning child project supports an active community of practice – the Green Commodities Community – through which practitioners from GGP projects, countries, and partners as well as the broader sustainable commodities community share knowledge and learn from each other. This child project also produces and disseminates knowledge products that meet the needs of its community members.
In 2019 this child project has produced a knowledge product on Gender to help its community members and gender practitioners at large better mainstream gender in agricultural commodities supply chains.
As gender is a priority issue for the GEF and UNDP, all GCP projects strive to mainstream gender through their interventions and approaches. In addition, each target production country of the GGP (Brazil, Liberia, Indonesia and Paraguay) have completed a gender study identifying key challenges for women in the target commodities supply chains, mostly on the production side, as well as recommendations for improved gender mainstreaming in country interventions. A demand-focused gender study has also been carried out with a global focus, and special consideration of the roles that women play throughout the supply chain.

REQUERIMIENTOS

With these Terms of Reference we are now seeking to contract a gender expert to ensure that the initial knowledge product produced in 2019 by GGP is supporting concrete improvements in gender awareness and mainstreaming in all projects GCP is and will be involved in.
