Forty-Ninth Math Webinar in English

The Panamanian Foundation for the Promotion of Mathematics (FUNDAPROMAT) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) welcome you to join our Forty-Ninth Math Webinar in English, which will take place on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025 at 5 pm Panama time, 6 pm EDT. This Webinar is free and open to the general public, which means that kids and adults of all ages are welcome to attend. 

In this Math Webinar in English, our invited speaker Hortensia Soto, Professor and Graduate Director of the Department of Mathematics at Colorado State University, will be presenting on "Moving, Doing, and Learning Math". Have you ever noticed that when we speak, we use our hands as we speak? The same is true when we speak about mathematics. Try it right now! Think about a math idea and see where your hands go. How do they mimic the mathematics? In this virtual event, we will engage in some games where your hands (and body) will speak mathematical ideas. The speaker will also share how knowing that our hands and body can speak mathematics can help us to better intentionally teach mathematics. Feel free to bring your fun meters so we can experience some of these ideas together.
