World Humanitarian Day Celebration 2011
On Friday, August 19, the World Humanitarian Day will be celebrated. This date was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations, in December 2008, to honor the labor of human aid personnel all over the world, pay tribute to those who have lost their lives in human aid missions and raise awareness about humanitarian needs.
For this special occasion OCHA and CINUP have organized a ceremony that will take place on Friday, August 19, at the Holiday Inn Hotel inside the City of Knowledge, and a panel discussion were four humanitarians will share their years of experience working to help others. The panelists include a worker from the National Civil Protection System of Panama, a representative of the World Society for the Protection of Animals and United Nations representatives.
World Humanitarian Day remembers and celebrates being a humanitarian worker in each of the many organizations that bring humanitarian aid all over the world. In Panama, the United Nations gathers more than 620 workers who dedicate their lives to the principles of humanity, impartiality and neutrality.
