UN Women Regional Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean Region at the City of Knowledge
On Wednesday, October 26, the Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, John Hendra, opened the new UN Women Regional Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean at the City of Knowledge.
Located at the United Nations Regional Hub for Latin America and the Caribbean, it is the first of six regional centers planned for the organization. Moni Pizani, Regional Director for the Southeast Asian Region, will be the first Director of this Regional Centre that seeks to cooperate in the construction of a more equal society regarding women rights in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The strategic priorities of UN Women include: economic empowerment of women, their politic leadership and participation, gender equality in national planning, the eradication of violence against women and children, and standing up for women rights in conflict and post-conflict situations, along with coordinating the job of the United Nations towards gender equality.
