OEI, United Way Panama, MEDUCA and Positive Outreach initiate the Despega Tocumen Project
With the presence of Melissa Wong Sagel, OEI Resident Director; Melinda West de Anguizola, Positive Outreach; Marissa Arias de Thayer, United Way Panama; and Professor Mirna Vallejo, Deputy Minister of Education; the project “Despega Tocumen” initiated at the Riande Hotel.
The project counts with the participation of over 50 teachers from five Educational Centers in the area of Tocumen: CEBG La Siesta, CEBG Santa María de los Ángeles, CEBG Sector Sur, CEBG Emperatriz Taboada and CEBG 24 de Diciembre. These teachers will be trained as facilitators of this project, whose primary objective is to provide educational tools that can improve the quality of education for students, taking into account the student population with special needs, associated, or not, to a disability.
The early stage of the project will last for 40 hours and teachers will be instructed to develop methodological techniques for teaching reading and writing in a permanent and meaningful way.
The OEI, based at the City of Knowledge, feels very pleased to be able to develop efforts for the benefit of Panamanian children.
