OEI supports SEGIB at the Meeting presentation of Afro XXI Results
With the presence of Juca Ferreira, former Minister of Culture of Brazil, results were presented for the Afro XXI Celebration: «Ibero-American Encounter of the International Year for People of African Descent», supported by the Organization of Ibero-American States, based at the City of Knowledge.
Afro XXI was a historic success in the analysis of the situation and the recognition of the contribution and rights of African descendants in Latin America, with the main result of the Salvador Declaration.
The Salvador Declaration emerged from the High Level Meeting coordinated by Dilma Rousseff, President of Brazil.
The Salvador Declaration contains important commitments: 1. Establish an Ibero-American Observatory for people of African Descent. 2. Establish an Ibero-American fund for people of African Descent. 3. Recommend the establishment of the Decade of African Descent. 4. Declare Salvador of Bahia as the Ibero-American capital for people of African Descent.
