OACNUDH organizes meeting with the Ombudsman of Panama
The United Nations Regional Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central America (OACNUDH), based at the City of Knowledge (CDS), organized a one-day work meeting with the Ombudsman of Panama, on September 25.
This activity took place within the support framework of the OACNUDH to the Ombudsman in order to improve the mechanisms and internal procedures for handling cases of human rights violations of indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants and racial discrimination.
Ms. Patria Portugal, Panama’s Ombudsman, officials of the regional offices of the Ombudsman, the Regional Representative of OACNUDH, Ms. Carmen Rosa Villa, and officials of OACNUDH Human Rights attended the activity.
The objective of the meeting was to present and exchange views on the tools and mechanisms to gather information and registration of cases, the internal system of monitoring cases, internal communication mechanisms between the direction of citizen orientation towards units of indigenous towns and/or unity against discrimination. Likewise, annual and thematic reports published and disseminated by the Ombudsman, the channels of communication with civil society and monitoring of the decisions issued by the Ombudsman to government institutions, were also analyzed.
