ELTI-PRORENA Annual Conference 2012
The Environmental Leadership & Training Initiative (ELTI) and the Native Species Reforestation Project (PRORENA) organized, on April 26 and 27, the Annual Conference PRORENA ELTI-2012 «Industrial Resource Extraction and Infrastructure Development in the Tropical Forests» at the City of Knowledge Convention Center.
The objectives of this conference were to provide a forum to present and share scientific research related to natural resource extraction and infrastructure development activities, including oil exploration, mining, hydroelectric dams and road construction, and their implications for forests and people in the Neotropics; as well as advancing in the understanding of mitigation options, including opportunities for forest restoration.
The event was attended by leading expert speakers on issues of infrastructure development in tropical forests, among other disciplines. Dr. Guillermo Castro, Academic Director of the City of Knowledge Foundation, gave a brilliant lecture, which covered the environmental history of Panama.
