Central America to action Plans for Disasters
The preparation and planning for post-disaster recovery in one of the most vulnerable regions in the world, will be discussed the next three days by government officials, representatives of international organizations and international experts in risk management in Panama City, in order to contribute to efforts to develop national frameworks of recovery in Central America.
Inaugurating the «Regional Workshop on Planning for Disaster Recovery”, Ricardo Mena, Head of the Regional Office for the Americas of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNISDR, said that «while development processes have enabled progress in the region, they have increased its vulnerability, which becomes the trigger of disasters.»
«The centerpiece of this regional workshop will be the strengthening of regional capacities in planning for disaster recovery, which is one of the critical areas of action addressed by the UNISDR, with the support of the European Union and the Government of Australia. » said Mena.
The regional meeting is organized by the UNISDR- The Américas and the Coordination Center for Natural Disaster Prevention in Central America, CEPREDENAC, supported by the United Nations Program for Development, UNDP, with funding from the European Union and the Australian Agency for International Development.
