Forty-Eighth Math Webinar in English

The Panamanian Foundation for the Promotion of Mathematics (FUNDAPROMAT) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) welcome you to join our Forty-Eighth Math Webinar in English, which will take place on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025 at 5 pm Panama time, 6 pm EDT. This Webinar is free and open to the general public, which means that kids and adults of all ages are welcome to attend. 

In this Math Webinar in English, our invited speaker Jacqueline Cordes, composer, synesthete and polyglot who strives to expand the vocabulary of music, will be presenting on "How to Create Colorful Music". What if the world you see were a vivid canvas of colors, triggered not by sight alone but by sound, language, or even abstract ideas? In this webinar, we will discuss the fascinating world of synesthesia—a neurological phenomenon where senses intertwine, creating extraordinary perceptual experiences. Exploring the connection between music and color, this webinar will examine musical chromesthesia, with Radiohead’s particularly vivid colors as a case study. From tempo experiments to synesthetic color maps, we will uncover how musical elements shape compositions. We will also analyze the musical aspects necessary for particular synesthetic colors, shown through the use of the Fibonacci sequence as the melody.
