The Human Whale Event at the City of Knowledge
Hasta: Julio 1, 2012 - 12:00 pm
Date: Sunday, July 1st, 2012
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: City of Knowledge, in front of the Main Building.
The Human Whale event is an activity that takes place every year in the country where the Annual Meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) is being held. This year Panama is hosting the 64th event, which lasts until July 6, 2012, with the participation from delegations of 89 countries.
In this context, Save the Whales Again www.savethewhalesagain.org, an international non-profit organization will be taking an aerial photograph of people forming a whale, which represents the participation of civil society in the IWC, and thus sending a message in favor of whale conservation.
Along with Greenpeace, our affiliates Albatros Foundation and MarViva Foundation, and a group of civil society organizations dedicated to conservation and protection of oceans and seas, the City of Knowledge Foundation joins forces to provide support in conducting this event, which represents one of the social mobilization initiatives aimed at promoting the conservation and protection of whales, while raising awareness and educating the general public about non-lethal use of cetaceans, as well as promoting the social and economic benefits of the development of coastal marine communities.
The intention is that all the people concerned for the welfare of the environment, seas and whales, participate in peaceful demonstrations in favor of the environment.
The aerial photographer will be John Quigley, who is also associated with the Save the Whales Again organization.
