The First Latin American Symposium on Music Therapy is part of the educational events of the 10th Anniversary of the Panama Jazz Festival based in the City of Knowledge. The cost will be $200 and participants will have access to the festival’s evening concerts at the Ateneo and receive a certificate of participation at the end of the Symposium.
The theme of the Symposium will be «Introduction to Music Therapy» and teachers will cover topics on how music is used as a therapeutic tool for people of all ages and conditions including autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, neurological disorders, hyperactivity, psychiatric disorders, brain damage, among others. Music therapists come from Panama, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States.
The Music Therapy Symposium is conducted through collaboration between the Department of Music Therapy at Berklee College of Music and Panama Jazz Productions, and is open to people of all ages interested in learning how music can be used in a therapeutic way. Teachers, doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, musicians, and people of other professions are especially invited to participate.
