National Debate Cup 2019 at the City of Knowledge
From Thursday 24 to Sunday, October 27, the National Debate Cup 2019, organized by the Panamanian Debate Association (ASPADE), was held at the City of Knowledge.
What began as just a group of young people dedicated debating issues, has become the Panamanian Debate Association (ASPADE), who for the fourth consecutive year carried out their star project: The National Debate Cup. This year 10 provinces and 3 regions were reached throughout the country, impacting 52 schools and more than 500 students, with the theme of: Citizen Participation.
The National Debate Cup has 4 phases:
1-Training of regional coordinators: where young people who know about debate are trained to go to the different regions of the country to teach what they have learned to the students.
2-National Debate Camp: a weekend full of dynamics, with students and their teachers, so they know how to create their Debate Club.
3-Regional Visits: the coordinators mobilize periodically to the schools in all provinces and 3 regions to teach debate.
4-National Debate Cup: after regional competitions, 1 team per region is chosen to participate in the National Debate Cup.
The Grand Final of the National Debate Cup was held on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27 at the City of Knowledge Convention Center. 14 teams competed representing the 10 provinces and the regions of Guna Yala, Emberá Wounaan and Ngäbe Buglé.
This year the final was a fierce competition between the team of Bocas del Toro and Panama Centro, represented by students of the San Agustín school, who were victorious.
The cup is held thanks to the alliances established with the Tribunal Electoral, the MEDUCA, City of Knowledge, City Hall of Panama and the Organization of Ibero-American States.
