On Sunday, March 31, 2019, in the spaces of the Biomuseo located on the Amador Causeway, starting at 7:30 am, the third March for Science will be held. The March will depart from the Biomuseo to the laboratory of the Smithsonian Institute on the Island of Naos and will then return to the starting point.
At 9:00 a.m., we will begin a morning of educational and interactive scientific activities for the whole family, culminating at 12:30 p.m. As part of this activity, practical workshops will be held, such as “The Biochemistry of Love” and “Coffee or Chocolate”, which will seek to highlight the importance of science in everyday life.
The March, promoted by the Science in Panama Movement, seeks to raise awareness in society about the importance of scientific activity for the solution of the problems that afflict the country. It is part of a global citizen movement, independent, not political, that seeks to make visible the role of science in the solution of the big and small problems of our time. In previous years more than 600 cities around the world have been the scene of this initiative.
In the case of Panama, the March seeks to draw attention to the need to base public policies on scientific evidence, and the need for our society to have adequate budgets for universities and public education and research centers, and financing for researchers.
Science in Panama Movement, composed of researchers and academics from various scientific disciplines, from different public and private entities, together with other important organizations, works to make the role of science visible in the life and development of our society, and the need for education based on demonstrable evidence and rational thinking. The event is being organized in collaboration with institutions such as: SENACYT, the Biomuseo, INDICASAT, Smithsonian Institute, Gorgas Memorial Institute, City of Knowledge, among others.
We invite all friends of science, teachers, academics, scientists from all fields of knowledge, and society in general, to share this important activity with us. You are cordially invited!
