To be an innovative community that promotes social change through humanism, science and business.
We live in a world where knowledge is economic and social development’s main feature, due to technological advances that make it possible, as never before, to share and take advantage of information and knowledge on a global scale.
In this scenario, the societies best prepared to prosper are those organized to generate knowledge, to share it, and to apply it in the decision-making process regarding the complex economic, social and environmental problems of today. It is for this reason that Panama should continue investing in developing its capabilities for research, scientific-technological progress and innovation, in order to serve the needs of different people and communities.
Collaboration is key in the search for solutions. The City of Knowledge is a place where entrepreneurs, businessmen, scientists, thinkers, artists and community leaders, as well as experts from the government, NGOs and international organizations collaborate in order to develop projects that bring about social change.
At the City of Knowledge, we believe that it is only through a strategic alliance between the state,
private companies and the third sector that Panama will be able to develop a knowledge-intensive economy and society.
The sciences as a whole play a critical part in understanding society’s problems and finding appropriate solutions. The business world also plays an important role in this endeavor, for which it needs to increasingly incorporate research, technological development and innovation into its production processes.
A humanist ethic must guide everything we do. We hold that all human beings have common essence and dignity, which we must assert and acknowledge in each other. In this sense, the City of Knowledge uses the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as its point of reference, and the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations as its roadmap.
This convergence of humanism, science and business is what makes the City of Knowledge’s contribution to problem-solving unique. It is an innovative community that is open to all, as well as an experimental laboratory for the transformations we hope to see in Panama and the world over.
