Organizational Context

The Secretariat of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (“the IFRC”) works to a Business Model and has a Business Delivery Plan with key commitments that sharpen its focus, clarity, and efficiency and accountability results. The Secretariat, headquartered in Geneva, has five decentralized regional offices: one of which is the Americas, guided by the Secretariat strategies for implementation and areas of focus that builds on the vision of strategy 2020. The Secretariat, headquartered in Geneva, has five decentralized regional offices: one of which is the Americas, guided by the Secretariat strategies for implementation and areas of focus that builds on the vision of strategy 2020. The Americas’ region is organized in two main hemispheres: a group of service-based departments and geographical configurations of (i) Country Cluster Support Teams and (ii) Country Office(s), as well as the Deputy Regional Director, each of them led by the Regional Director; and another hemisphere: six building blocks composed by (i) Partnerships and Resource Development, (ii) Policy, Strategy and Knowledge; (iii) Communication, (iv) Disaster and Crisis: Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, (v) Health and Water and Sanitation, (vi) Logistics, each of them led by the Deputy Regional Director. The Senior Management Intern will be based in the Americas Regional Office located in Panama. Under the lead of the Senior Liaison Executive Officer, he/she will support the Americas Regional Office (ARO) in the strengthening, alignment and adjustment of the restructuration process of its Unit’s functions and organigrams among other ongoing strategic processes (IMII, IFRC Portfolio, Humanitarian Hub, Matrix Management, etc.), including the preparation of the Inter American Conference.

Job Purpose

Under the leadership of the Senior Executive Liaison Officer, the Senior Management (SMT) Intern will support the different strategic processes led by the Regional Director in the Americas Region.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of documentation for the Inter American Conference (IAC) and the reports from the accomplishment of the Inter American Framework for Action (IAFA)
  • Keep the information related to the strategic processes of the Regional director organized and updated (IMII, Portfolio, Humanitarian Hub, Matrix Management, among others)
  • Organize and update files of the Regional Director (hard and soft copies)
  • Collate inputs and develop first draft of monthly highlights report
  • Collaborate with programmatic areas of focus through the collection and analysis of data/key information, as well as participating and supporting activities per his/her academic expertise under the approval of the Regional Director and/or Liaison Officer

Education

  • Currently pursuing an international cooperation, development and/or humanitarian assistance or related university degree

Knowledge, skills and languages

  • Self-supporting in computer applications (i.e. MS Office)
  • High level of organization
  • Results-orientation

Languages:

  • Fluently spoken English and Spanish
  • Good command of any other Federation official language (French, Arabic)

Important note:

  • Federation will provide the intern with a daily allowance which will serve to cover the cost of meals and other related expenses;
  • Interns are not eligible for payment of overtime;
  • Interns are solely responsible for making their own logistical arrangements (visa, travel, accommodation, insurance, etc.) as well as for their cost prior to starting the internship;
  • The IFRC accepts no responsibility to provide medical insurance, or for costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during the internship. Interns are required to provide a copy of their health and accident insurance certification;
  • This internship is open to local and international applicants who are currently-enrolled in a university or equivalent level or have graduated recently (normally within 1 year from the date of hiring) in an area that is compatible with the above description
