The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world's largest humanitarian organization, with 190 member National Societies. As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, our work is guided by seven fundamental principles; humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.
The Secretariat of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (“the IFRC”) works to a Business Model and has a Business Delivery Plan with key commitments that sharpen its focus, clarity, and efficiency and accountability results. The Secretariat, headquartered in Geneva, has five decentralized regional offices: one of which is the Americas, guided by the Secretariat strategies for implementation and areas of focus that builds on the vision of strategy 2020.
The Americas’ region is organized in two main hemispheres: a group of service-based departments and geographical configurations of (i) Country Cluster Support Teams and (ii) Country Office(s), as well as the Deputy Regional Director, each of them led by the Regional Director; and another hemisphere: six building blocks composed by (i) Partnerships and Resource Development, (ii) Policy, Strategy and Knowledge; (iii) Communication, (iv) Disaster and Crisis: Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, (v) Health and Water and Sanitation, (vi) Logistics, each of them led by the Deputy Regional Director.
The FDRS team in Geneva and the regions works with FDRS focal points in the IFRC regional and country offices and with 190 National Societies to carry out data collection and analysis tasks. The FDRS Administrator is a member of the global FDRS team.
The Federation-wide Databank and Reporting System (FDRS) goal is to “establish a databank of objectively-analysed National Society capacities that creates greater self-awareness of their profile at all levels, services, strengths, gaps, and their future potential for boosting their own development”.
The general objectives of the FDRS are:
•to promote awareness of the capacities and potential of Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies and boost their self-development,
•to facilitate monitoring and reporting of performance in a consistent and transparent manner
The FDRS Administrator is member of a global FDRS team in Geneva working with focal points in the IFRC regional and country offices and with 190 National Societies to carry out data collection and analysis tasks.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Data collection, cleaning and quality assurance
• Technical support – National Society country profiles: Proactively solicit and review submissions from FDRS focal points in National Societies
• Technical support – Everyone Counts report 2017
• National Society Contacts: Liaise with colleagues within the IFRC secretariat library in Geneva to update contact information
• Reporting IT issues and testing
• An advanced university degree in statistics, economics or other social sciences
• Expertise in data analysis, public health, epidemiology and statistics, research methods, and policy analysis (minimum 1- 2 years experience)
• Demonstrated experience of working on data collection for large projects/ organizations, and delivering on targets successfully
Knowledge, skills and languages
•Proactive attitude to problem solving. “Can do attitude”
•Highly developed research and analytical skills. Specifically, a very high level of drafting skills e.g. analytical reports;
•Proficiency in Microsoft suite of applications and data packages. Specifically, confident in using advanced functions of Excel (e.g. Pivot tables and charts);
•Proficiency in statistical packages and visualization applications an asset (e.g. Stata, SPSS, Tableau);
•Organizational and presentation skills in English and Spanish.
•Familiar with the Red Cross and Red Crescent network and have experience in international humanitarian and development work;
•Excellent spoken and written English
•Excellent spoken and written Spanish
•Good command of another IFRC official language (French), or any other language relevant to the region (i.e., French, Portuguese) (preferred)
