World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day
On Monday, May 8, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Panamanian Red Cross (CRP) and the City of Knowledge Foundation celebrated World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. On the occasion of the celebration of the 154 years of the Movement, the raising of the Red Cross flag was carried out in front of the City of Knowledge Foundation main building.
The event began with words from the Vice President of the Panamanian Red Cross, Elías Solís González, who mentioned, "the Panamanian Red Cross, and especially its volunteers and staff, are very proud to celebrate one more year of this great Movement. It is the most powerful and humane Movement that exists in the world, and whose fundamental objective is to succor all people who need help regardless of race, religious creed or political inclination."
For his part, the Regional Director of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Walter Cotte, stressed, "this flag that has just been lifted is very heavy because it has a collective responsibility that we all have to fulfill. Many people around the world are being attacked without protection and this is a very big responsibility for all of us that must offer an efficient humanitarian response so that people can regain their dignity. Today we celebrate this day for all the people who suffer in this world."
Giuseppe Renda, head of the mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Panama, stressed, "today we confirm that we remain committed to serving the most needy and vulnerable communities in the world."
