Ten best startups selected
The City of Knowledge Foundation, in partnership with IE Business School, presented the ten best startups in the world, selected by the H2O Challenge and Global Demo Day 2017 Latin America, to be held in Panama on February 16 and 17, 2017.
Following a call that exceeded expectations in relation to previous years, more than 50 proposals were received with powerful and feasible solutions to the current and future problems of water management. Among the countries selected in this call were: Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Mexico, United States, Canada and Spain, who were selected by a multidisciplinary technical committee.
All selected projects - Aquaseca, Liqwiz, Waterlogies, Folia Water, Fred, Iqbika, Aquacero, Yaqua, Omniprocessor, Solea Water and Ysyry will undergo a one-week acceleration process at the City of Knowledge Innovation Center, where they will have the opportunity to validate their business models, get to know the customer and the market. In addition, they will be provided with the tools and mechanisms to support their idea, with the help of leading speakers to improve their business models.
All initiatives are focused on technology, monitoring, filters, water meters, sensors, facilitating access to water, or purification, offering different approaches to solve a problem that affects more than ten million people in the world.
Outstanding professionals will bring all their experience and knowledge during the Cycle of Conferences (February 16) and Global Demo Day (February 17), at the City of Knowledge Convention Center, among them: Carlos Vargas, Vice President of Environment, Water And Energy of the Panama Canal Authority; Guillermo Castro, Vice President for Research and Education of the City of Knowledge Foundation; Emilio Sempris, Deputy Minister of Environment; Juan José Güemes, President of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center of the IE Business School; Miguel Vargas, Senior Specialist in Water and Sanitation of the World Bank; and Yossi Yaacoby, Israel Water Specialist.
At the presentation of the finalist projects during Global Demo Day, to be held at the City of Knowledge Convention Center, there will be investors representing the water sector and entrepreneurship. Each entrepreneur will have ten minutes to present its project and "capture the attention of investors". At the culmination of the event, we will jointly reaffirm the commitment to find viable solutions and turn them into opportunities to improve the quality of life of people.
