PRISMA returns to the City of Knowledge
7 years ago, Ximena Eleta de Sierra and Analida Galindo, both renowned dancers and managers of contemporary Panamanian dance, created the PRISMA DANZA Foundation that will hold the seventh edition of PRISMA - International Contemporary Dance Festival of Panama, from October 7 to 14, 2018.
The City of Knowledge Foundation is part of the select group of collaborating institutions of the festival and this year there will be three important presentations at the Athenaeum.
We had the opportunity to ask a few questions to Ximena Eleta de Sierra y Analida Galindo:
How much has the festival grown in these seven years since the Foundation was created?
The foundation has successfully completed 6 editions of the Prisma Festival, since its first edition in 2012, each year exceeding the expectations of the previous edition. The public is growing steadily every year, but above all we propose in each edition to expand a little more the range of the festival and its free activities to reach more people and generate interest in dance and the scenic arts. This year we are including the Transportation Terminal and a school in San Miguelito to our alternative spaces.
How special is it to have functions at the Athenaeum?
We feel at home. It is a pleasure to work in a theater equipped with the latest technology and where they work for everything to be in great condition. Unfortunately, it is not the norm in Panama, but the exception. It is a role model for the other theaters.
How important has the support provided by the City of Knowledge Foundation been?
The CdS has been an invaluable ally for the PRISMA Festival since its inception. They believed in the project and saw us as a very important ally. The Athenaeum has been an important venue for our presentations giving us significant financial support by subsidizing part of the rental costs of its facilities. A primary objective of the festival is to create long-term alliances and allies for the realization of the same, something that is not always achieved within the support structure in Panama. However, in our relationship with CdS, our experience has been an important achievement in this sense, as we feel that we have strengthened these cooperation ties over the years to achieve a lasting, fruitful and valuable partnership for both parties that we believe we can reaffirm even more in the future.
The festival’s functions to be held at the Athenaeum are:
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9 / OPUS BALLET (ITALY) / "Il lago dei Cigni"
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11 / MARLYN ATTIE (PANAMA / COLOMBIA) / "El Umbral" and COCODACO (USA) / "Were it not for shadows"
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13 / DANIEL ABREU (SPAIN) | "The Nudity" (Adult Public)
