Course on scientific journalism and science communication: Reach & Turn
From September 14 to 16, the City of Knowledge Training and Business Center hosts the course on scientific journalism and science communication: Reach & Turn, given by the award-winning multimedia producer, Lily Ciric Hoffman.
This is the second year that the City of Knowledge Foundation, the United Nations Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology and the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACYT), join forces to deliver this high-level training in Panama.
The event began with words from the Executive President of the City of Knowledge Foundation, Jorge Arosemena, who mentioned that "this three day course is very important since this is a permanent issue. Joining scientists and communicators is necessary to make better public policy decisions and improve people's living conditions. With initiatives like this we find ways to communicate with the community, which is essential for us as a society."
For his part, Dr. Víctor Sánchez, National Director of Innovation, highlighted the work of SENACYT to disseminate knowledge and give a voice to Panamanian scientists and innovators.
This course is attended by journalists, scientists, science professionals and social communicators who are interested in the dissemination of science. Reach & Turn opens the opportunity to learn about the role of science communication in cultural and practical fields, and provides resources on scientific communication at a global level. The course also seeks to provide scientists and communicators with the resources for effective communication and understanding of scientific documents, to provide journalists with a better understanding of how science is done. Also, in handles subjects such as fake news, digital communication, post truth, among others.
Special guest: Lily Ciric Hoffman
Multimedia producer of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize winning project “Reasonable Doubt”, she is a recognized producer of digital media, lecturer of the diverse types of multimedia communication, entrepreneur and cofounder of Knewaira. She has degrees in web design and development, and journalism. She also has more than 10 years of experience working in the field of online media.
