In January 2019 the Panama Jazz Festival returns with 43 scheduled concerts and an energetic billboard that includes: the Blake family with Alex Jr. and Russel Blake and their group Sons of Panama, the Canadian saxophonist with her Cuban group Jane Bunnett & Maqueque, the North American trombonist Andrew Hayward, the Swedish trombonist Gunhild Carlin, the Israeli guitarist Rotem Shivan, the Colombian singer Lucía Pulido and her group Corazonantes, and the debut of Danilo Pérez's Global Messengers in a new project of artists from Palestine, Greece, Jordan, United States and Panama, premiering a new musical composition commissioned by the Mayor’s Office of Panama to honor the 500 years of the city of Panama.

The national musicians that stand out in this edition include the group Roberto Delgado & Orchestra, Afrodisíaco, Idania Downman & The Emotions, Omar Díaz and his group Dedé, Luz Acosta Ensemble, The Blues Dogs, Santos Diablos, Calabar, Jose Luis Medina, Salsa Quintet of Rey Cruz, Panama Jazz All Stars, the Panamanian Folklore Group Shuruka, and the Danilo Pérez Foundation Ensembles.

In addition, we will have the participation of prestigious educational institutions such as the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, the New England Conservatory and the New York Jazz Academy, which each year offer great support to the Festival and together with the invited artists will offer some 80 educational workshops.

Other groups that will come to the Festival include the group from Costa Rica Orquesta Juventud Esperanza, Orion Lion Chile Ensemble, Carrera Quinta, the Argentine guitarist Claudio Ragazzi, Making Movies, Yuri Namkung and the group of teachers of the program Classical Music Exchange, the Swedish trombonist PJ Anderson, and other guests at the festival's educational events.

The Panama Jazz Festival will have concerts at the City of Knowledge Athenaeum, the Great Gala Night, music clinics, the VII Latin American Music Therapy Symposium, II Classical Music Exchange Program, the III Symposium of Musical, Artistic and Cultural Expressions of Afro-descendants in Panama, and all the events that are part of the 16th anniversary of the Panama Jazz Festival.

The Panama Jazz Festival is produced by Panama Jazz Productions for the benefit of the Danilo Pérez Foundation. The festival is organized thanks to the support of the National Tourism Authority of Panama, the National Institute of Culture, the Mayor of Panama, City of Knowledge Foundation, BAC Panama, Copa Airlines, Alamo Rent A Car, Cable & Wireless, among many others.
